The results are in from our 2013 Big Dipper All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival!
We hosted a sweet Big Dipper All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival on June 29th at Elm Park in Worcester where hundreds of our participants voted for their favorite ice cream. Out of 40 flavors, our number one flavor winner was:

Rounding out the top 10 were Double Fudge Brownie and Peanut Butter Cup (tie) from Hood, Ice Cream Cakes from Dairy Queen Grill and Chill of West Boylston, Country Time Pink Lemonade Sorbet from Cold Stone Creamery of Millbury, Cotton Candy from Crystal Caves of Auburn, Cinnamon Coffee Cake from Janine’s Frostee of Ware, Party Cake from Turkey Hill, Dinosaur Crunch from Eurest Dining Services, Coconut Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars from Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt, and Lemon Italian Ice from Coco’s Tropical Ice. Congratulations to all!
Even better, we netted $47,000 to benefit the critical programs we provide to children and families throughout central Massachusetts. Thanks to everyone who had a part in the success of this year’s Big Dipper – volunteers, staff, sponsors, ice cream vendors, entertainers, and our wonderful families. We can’t do it without you!

More on the Big Dipper!
On June 29, 2013, Elm Park was filled with children, families, and all other ice cream lovers enjoying our annual Big Dipper All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival. In addition to ice cream, there was a Food Tent, large raffle, Moon Walks, Speed Pitch, Basketball Toss, face painting, Polar sampling tent, helium balloons, team mascots, clowns, and musical entertainment. The Worcester Fire Truck, Worcester Library’s Bookmobile, local author Jeanelle Wheeler, Worcester’s Cultural Coalition, Worcester Community Connections, Worcester Family Partnership, Worcester Wildcats, Hanover Theatre, Mass Moms, Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, YMCA, Mass. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Sweet Entertainment also took part. The NEADS puppies, who are in training to help disabled Americans, stopped by with their trainers. Andi the Clown painted faces, and Sparkles the Clown created awesome balloon animals. The WPI Robotics demonstration was great!
The Big Dipper All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival has been a central Massachusetts tradition since 1989, attracting several thousand people over the years. All proceeds benefit the programs of Children’s Friend. Our mission is to improve the lives of children and those who love them. To accomplish this mission, our programs are designed to help children and families whose lives have been affected by difficulties including abuse, neglect, family instability, death, substance abuse, and mental, emotional and physical problems. We provide them with the highest quality of services designed to meet the mental and emotional needs of children and to strengthen families.

We had perfect weather and record crowds at the 2012 Big Dipper. Our families enjoyed the Moonwalks, Speed Pitch, face painting, Food Tent, giant raffle with awesome gifts, celebrity scoopers, clowns, balloons, cheerleaders, team mascots, all day entertainment including fabulous Breje Williams - 2 PM, Dale LePage & The Manhattans – 11:30 AM, Chuck and Mud – 10:30 AM, Elisabeth and Mike Gondek – 3 PM, Joy of Music Jazz Ensemble 4 PM, and New England Dance Center, 1:20 PM. Baby Nadder and his Viking from How to Train Your Dragon made a special appearance delighting kids of all ages!
